Internet 2011 in numbers

The number of sites on the web for 2011has two times increased, the Pingdom Company shows in its annual report. If at the end of 2010, there were 255 million of Internet resources, in December 2011 – it is already 555 million.

The number of Internet users in 2011 reached the mark of $ 2.1 billion. Among the continent the largest part of the Internet audience occurs in Asia - 44%. 500 million users live in china - that is, quarter of the global Internet audience.

The number of accounts in social networks in 2011 was 2.4 billion.  The largest number of accounts is on Facebook - 800 million. The second place with 255 million of registered users belongs to Twitter.

Mobile Internet in 2011, seriously increased. More than 50% of the Internet audience sometimes uses mobile devices to connect to the network. In December, the number of active users of mobile broadband services was 1.2 billion.

The number of electronic mailboxes much more than the total number of users and are 3.15 billion. The most popular among email client is Microsoft Outlook. The most popular Web mail up to 2011 is recognized as Hotmail (360 million users).

Among the browsers still leading is Internet Explorer (39%). The second place went to 2011 Chrome (28%). Then it is followed by Firefox (25%), Safari (6%) and Opera (2%).
